The far northeast of Slovenia, across the river Mura, is divided to the northern hilly region called Goričko and the flat landscapes of Ravensko (the flatlands) and Dolinsko (the lowlands). Where you meet and eat meat and when you know what you eat. Kodila is a family company that has been processing and producing Prekmurje and Goričko ham for three generations. In the renewed farm where the ham shop is located you will get in touch with the tradition of Prekmurje farmhouses under thatched roofs and clay plasters. There is also a restaurant and a lovely terrace, where you will enjoy a gourmet experience the Prekmurje style. They specialize in steaks from Slovenian cured beef and local traditional dishes. All steaks are dry aged for four weeks. A true speciality is the mangalitsa pig whose meat contains less cholesterol than chicken meat.

Canadian-born Daniel Sukič explored the (culinary) world, before settling in Slovenia. He started at the restaurant Rajh but became a bonafide chef devoted to Prekmurje at Kodila. He added quality to grill and meat, upgrading excellent ingredients in form and in content. Combination of his and Prekmurje roots sits well with dishes, making them not only classical and modern, but identifiable and different. Kodila’s grill doesn’t only have meet, it also has a chef. Formal education in Culinary Arts, Vancouver Community College in Canada earned him the Canadian Red Seal Certified Chef title and gave him the width of culinary perception. He polished his skills at Mike Robbins in Vancouver in the restaurant AnnaLena; two-Michelin-starred chef Björn Frantzén and one-Michelin-starred chef Jonathan K. Berntsen mentored him in Stockholm and Copenhagen, respectively. The Canadian-Prekmurje chef Daniel Sukič is the added value that gives image and realisation to excellent ingredients. Combination of his and Prekmurje roots sits well with dishes, which obtain a specific, different, fuller taste.
