Maribor, the city beneath Pohorje with the oldest vine in the world
The second largest Slovenian city is experiencing a renaissance. The river Drava, which has been yielding profit with rafting for centuries, today gives the city its beat and colour. The picturesque edge of the Alps that transform into hills before taking the shape of valleys, in combination with Pohorje, offer plenty of leisure possibilities and rejuvenating relaxation in nature. The vineyards practically merge with the city, and the oldest vine in the world produces the most exquisite crop every year. This is why in Slovenia the city of Maribor enjoys a reputation of being the wine capital, the football city and the city of the Lent festival that takes place every year and attracts numerous amazing artists.
OVERVIEW
Once an industrial city now boasts a rich history. Its beginnings are traced on a low hill, where the chapel – Piramida stands today. The city grew beneath the hill, with a castle, the Castle square, St. Florian's Column, and a pleasant atmosphere. In the Regional Museum you can learn more about the local history, and more above the medieval legacy of the former port quarter while strolling along Drava. From the Water Tower to the Judgement Tower runs the popular boardwalk as well as the oldest vine in the world. The trail through the preserved medieval streets will take you to the former center of the city, the Main square with the beautiful Town Hall and the Plague column, which is where your hotel is located. There are many interesting things in the city, but if you want to explore the surroundings, we recommend a short leap to the foothills of Pohorje, where you can take a cable car to the top to enjoy a spectacular view of the city and beyond, to the valley of Drava.

With a subtle sense for each guest, David creates an unforgettable individual journey through the land of delicious bites. He approaches guests in person and adds a personal touch to every dish. He has mainly received training abroad, spending as much as 11 years travelling around Europe and South Africa. He learned cooking skills from famous names and at addresses of global cuisine, such as Christian Petz at Palais Coburg in Vienna, Dieter Koschina at Vila Joya in Portugal, Gerhard Schwaiger at Tristan, the best restaurant in Majorca.
