The Drava valley has been shaping the destiny of its inhabitants for millennia. Thanks to its strategic position, the Roman Poetovio has been the most important city far and wide. Its antique legacy is rich, its medieval legacy is also not far behind, and the ethnological legacy with the carnival figure named “kurent” is omnipresent. Next to the oldest wine in the world, Maribor also boasts Pohorje, the former medieval port area Lent, interesting festival events and exquisite culinary offer the tip of which is certainly Restavracija Mak.
OVERVIEW
Ptuj is an old town above which rises a once mighty castle. Its greatest attraction is “kurent” which was also recognized by UNESCO, the figure that chases winter away every spring in one of the most colourful carnivals in the world. Other attractions include the Minorite monastery, the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, one of the oldest Gothic churches in Slovenia, the Dominican Monastery that became a prominent artistic and cultural complex thanks to the donations of rich aristocrats and townsmen, and the Ptuj Castle with its museum collections. In the evening, the center becomes a lively place where you can hang around with kind locals, which are open-minded and always in high spirits. Next day, you can head out to Maribor, the city that boasts rich history, and you can learn about it in the Regional Museum and while strolling along the river Drava, on the popular boardwalk from the Water Tower to the Judgement Tower, in the company of the oldest vine in the world. The path through the preserved medieval streets will take you to the former city centre, the Main square with the beautiful Town Hall and the Plague Column, after which you can head out to Restavracija Mak for an amazing gourmet experience.

Grand Hotel Primus ****
Through a prism of modern times, Grand Hotel Primus reveals how the wealthy Romans who passed this region enjoyed life. You can enjoy yourself, too, either in the hotel pool and in the wellness centre, or you can join the party on central pools, which are especially lively in summer with their slides. The hotel is located in the centre of the spa facility. You can relax at the Valens Augusta wellness, with its thermal baths, and the World of saunas Flavia, you can also treat yourself to various beauty programmes or massages. Feel free to dive into the intimate atmosphere of the pool complex Vespasianus, that includes a children’s pool, pool with an outdoor exit and two whirlpools. There is a Thermal park nearby for double the fun.
The hotel, named after the famour Roman warrior Marcus Antonius Primus, has a total of 118 rooms with modern design. All rooms have an LCD TV, free WiFi, a minibar, and most of them also have a balcony.

Restavracija Mak is one of the best and most likely one of the most extravagant restaurants in Slovenia. If you want to savour the artistic side of food and not just the multiple award-wining gourmet experience, this surely is a place to be. His value hasn’t gone unnoticed even by Michelin, Gaullt&Millau and the JRE association, which further shows the culinary experience will certainly be unforgettable.

With a subtle sense for each guest, David creates an unforgettable individual journey through the land of delicious bites. He approaches guests in person and adds a personal touch to every dish. He has mainly received training abroad, spending as much as 11 years travelling around Europe and South Africa. He learned cooking skills from famous names and at addresses of global cuisine, such as Christian Petz at Palais Coburg in Vienna, Dieter Koschina at Vila Joya in Portugal, Gerhard Schwaiger at Tristan, the best restaurant in Majorca.
In 2019, Gault&Millau Slovenija named him the Chef of the Future.
