Dobrna and Celje, ideal to relax and explore
Dobrna is home to the oldest Slovenian spa, connected with the city core by the mighty chestnut alley, and connected to the energy park, green nature and interesting sights through walking, cycling and learning forest paths around the city. In the 1900s, the healing resort was highly renowned and welcomed many celebrated visitors, such as the German writer Karl May who visited the resort in 1907. Celje is a city that is tightly linked to its history. Already the ancient Romans admired the beneficial effects of thermal water, but at the height of its glory it was one of the most important European cities. Here reigned one of the most powerful families, equal to the Habsburgs by power and influence. Under their castle, the city developed into a modern, strongly fortified and lively center, making it one of the most beautiful in Slovenia, with numerous museums, strong connection to nature and various events.
OVERVIEW
For over 600 years, the healing water and impact of nature have been the source of health and relaxation in Terme Dobrna. The first official written records about the natural thermal spring date back to 1403, although the healing properties and benefits of the thermal water in Dobrna have already been admired by the ancient Celts and Romans. Nowadays you can admire the health resort Zdraviliški dom from the 17th century, walk to the ruins of the so-called Snake castle or roam the area on a bicycle.
You can experience the nearby city of Celje as a former Roman city or as a rich medieval city of the Count of Celje. Initially, people resided in the castle which is absolutely worth seeing, and later they moved to the more comfortable Prince's Mansion. If you want to get the sense of what it was like at the end of the 19th century, we suggest you visit the Josip Pelikan's Skylight Photo Studio from 1899, which stores a rich photography equipment collection. Finally, you may even change your clothes into something from the old times and take a photo you can keep as a souvenir.

Bathing in thermal pools of Terme Dobrna will fill you up with positive energy, while underwater massages and whirlpools will invigorate you. The pool complex is located in the hotel Vital, which is 100 m away. You can also enjoy different baths and saunas. In the VIP sauna Park, which is located in the hotel Park, you can enjoy relaxing time in two or in a smaller group and get all the positive effects you deserve.

Gourmet experience: Galerija okusov (Gallery of tastes)
Galerija okusov (Gallery of tastes) is located in the 18th century castle, surrounded by centuries-old trees and a lawn. The dining room, which is set in the former castle laundry rooms, is tastefully furnished. Large windows, tables without cloths, wood, carefully selected flower on a shelf and herbs on windows create a pleasant atmosphere. In warmer months you may also be served on a large garden, where tables are placed on the lawn under the mighty treetops.
The gallery is appealing with its atmosphere, its concept and, of course, its cuisine. They are leaning towards local ingredients, even though their view of modern cuisine reaches far across borders. Young chefs Luka Gmajner and Marko Magajne leave no one indifferent with their creativity. Their motto is the future that is supported on the tradition of heritage. They are into fermentation and endless experimenting. This results in photogenic plates, with dishes being true works of art. Wild, youthfully funky, with just the right amount of sophistication.
Even the wine list is not far behind with over 230 labels and the selection of cocktails mixed up by the best Slovenian bartender Anže Šmid, who has been named the Bartender of the year at multiple occasions by the Slovenian Bartenders Association.
They boast the Michelin plate, three Gault&Millau caps and a rating of 15.5/20.

Meet the chef: Luka Gmajern in Marko Magajne
Chef Luka Gmajner used to be Borut Jovan’s assistant, which assures continuity, and everything else is there anyway. With youthful enthusiasm and creativity, he creates culinary experiences for guests together with Marko Magajna, so everybody has a good time.
At the cooking competition Global Chefs Challenge in Rimini, Marko Magajne won for the south Europe region and qualified for the finals of the best chefs in the world. His winning dish: veal rump steak, crunchy cannelloni with veal kidney and pine nuts, fried white polenta with cauliflower, cauliflower and celery puree, fried cauliflower, sour cauliflower, demi glace sauce, hazelnut paste. He also worked with Igor Jagodič at Villa Bled and Restavracija Strelec, and Borut Jovan in Galerija okusov.
In combination with amazing creative potential and youthful enthusiasm they create dishes that leave an impression.
In a short period, they concocted a successful culinary story that invites guests to come back for more.
